I don’t know how many times I’ve missed a duck, deer or pig due to looking at my phone while I’m out hunting, but it’s a number for sure. In this case, I was doing my best Marty Stouffer impression when the wind shifted. The pigs smell me, get antsy and eventually take off.
Except for one straggler. She died. I waited till sundown hoping the herd would return, but they didn’t.
She was much bigger than I expected. I thought maybe 80 pounds when I shot, but she was closer to 120-130 lbs. Getting these big pigs into the back of the truck is getting to be an issue.
Saturday is looking like a good time. Duck hunting, sausage making, and then Christmas fun with the fam.
What are you up to this weekend?
Getting the buggers into the truck does seem to be the issue of the day. Deerslayer has discovered that all 5’4″ of me doesn’t provide the assistance he needs to hoist a hefty hog hither and yon. I’m hoping to be making some jerky this weekend. And some homemade eggnog using an old family recipe.
Yea, of course it’s dead weight. The shoulders and head are also bulky and floppy. Also, unlike a deer say, I’m never exactly excited to “hug” a big old stinkin pig.
